RE-ENFORCEMENT OF BAN ON SCRAP METAL SCAVENGERS IN EKET 



The attention of the Eket Local Government Council has been drawn to the illegal activities and harassment meted out by scrap metal scavengers popularly known as "iron condemned" which of recent, has not only put the lives of our people and residents alike in danger but has also aided other heinous crime associated with their activities.

To this end, the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey has ordered an immediate step up of the enforcement of an earlier ban imposed by the State Government on the activities of scrap metal scavengers in a release signed by the Secretary to the State Government on the 4th of January, 2022.

We hereby call on members of the public to report those who still engage in these acts  to the nearest police station and we  also appeal to our people to hold their peace in the face of any provocation as we are working on modalities to ensure peace reigns among us.

We also use this medium to notify the general public that the swift response of the Chairman of Council, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey has led to the apprehension of the mastermind of the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of March 20, 2022 by a combine search team of Police, the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) operating in our locality and Eket youths. The said suspect is in police custody and will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
