PDP Select Sen Biodun Olujimi As New Senate Minority Leader to replace Sen Godswill Akpabio

The Senate caucus of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Senator Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti South) as the new Senate minority leader.

Olujimi, a former deputy governor of Ekiti State
will replace the former Senator minority leader, Godswill Obot Akpabio, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

n-Mirror reliably learnt that upon resumption from its annual recess in September, Olujimi's name would be announced at the floor of the Senate.

According to reports, the PDP caucus decided to nominate Olujimi to fill the position in order to have a vibrant member from the southwest as Governor Ayo Fayose would be leaving his position soon, having completed his tenure in office.

The opposition party also reportedly picked
Olujimi, so as to recognise the role of women in
the political space.

The position did not go to the south-south
because the national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, is from that geopolitical zone.

Also, it didn't go to the southeast as the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, is from that zone.

The deputy Senate minority leader, Senator
Emmanuel Bwacha (PDP-Taraba south) and the
Senate minority whip, Senator Philip Aduda
(PDP- FCT) would retain their positions as they
are both from the north.

Senator Emmanuel Paulker (PDP-Bayelsa
central) will now take over as the Senate deputy
minority whip; Olujimi's previous position.

Recall that Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio resigned from his position as minority leader of the Senate.

The lawmaker resigned in a letter addressed to
the Senate deputy minority leader, Emmanuel
Bwacha, and the PDP lawmakers.
