FOOD SUFFICIENCY: GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL FLAGS-OFF TRAINING FOR AKWA IBOM YOUTHS



Governor Udom Emmanuel, in his quest to create wealth and job opportunities for teeming Akwa Ibom youths, while ensuring agriculture and food sufficiency in Akwa Ibom State, has flagged-off a 14-day training programme for tractor operators and mechanics in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the event in Uruan, Governor Udom Emmanuel, represented by the Chairman, Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Prof Edet Udoh, said “the state government is moving agriculture from culture agriculture to the business of agriculture and also looking at stimulating the value chain and its imperatives to ensure sufficiency in agricultural development.”
He said commercial agricultural will not be possible without mechanization of the farming process hence, the need to train tractor drivers and technicians who play a vital role in food production.
The training programme facilitated by the State FADAMA Coordination Center in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sufficiency and Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, is coordinated by world renowned Agro Company, TaTa African Service in partnership with John Deere – an American corporation that manufactures agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery.
Participants, selected from the 10 federal constituencies of the state will be trained on safe driving techniques, pre-use maintenance, safety checks and recognition of controls and instruments.
Present at the flag-off were the Secretary, Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, State Coordinator, FADAMA III AF, representatives from Central Bank, Mr. Richmond – John Deere’s Representative on Government Business in West Africa, Mr. Jerk of John Deere, Mr. Abasiifiok Ekop – Sales rep, Tata African Service, Mr. Akanimo Udobia – reps, AgroChemical, Tata African Services and members of the host community (Uruan).
