It was an unprecedented crowd in Uyo on Friday as more than 10,000 youths from Akwa Ibom South(Eket) Senatorial District embarked on a solidarity march in support of Governor Udom Emmanuel's Gubernatorial race in 2019. 

The solidarity March which drew participants from the 12 Local Government Areas in the district took them from the Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue, to the Akwa Ibom State Government House, Uyo.

The youths sang, danced and waved flags in excitement over the Governor's superlative performance across the state with particular reference to Eket Senatorial District, while awaiting  their host at the hilltop mansion gate.

The state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel on arrival,  acknowledged with cheers the array of heads that came from the nooks and crannies  of Eket Senatorial District for the solidarity march in his honour.

The Governor expressed delight with Eket Senatorial District for the show of love and unity of purpose which moved the entire youths of the area to appreciate his administration's achievements in the past two years.

Mr Emmanuel who indicated satisfaction with his performance so far said, "let me say something here, the records are there to speak. If there is any state in Nigeria under recession that says they have done more than what we have done here, with their meager resources, let them come and prove us wrong. There is none!!".

He spoke about his administration's road intervention efforts in some Local Government Areas in the Senatorial District and emphasized on the ongoing dualized airport road expected to link up with the East West road in Oron. 

"I went to Apostolic Church in Oron Local Government Area, they called the road, Agric lane, for 39 years nobody passed there, I promised Apostolic Church that by the next convention, the members will drive through same road, tarred with culverts, to the church and that, we did".

He recalled the difficulties encountered by commuters to and from Ibeno in time past due to the bad road and said that it was not proper to treat the goose that lay the golden egg in that manner hence the newly completed road network to the area.

The Governor said that the projects handled by his administration are not such that can be completed in 2 or 3 years and added thatit was important for the same person "who had the vision and love, to remain and complete those projects"

Governor Emmanuel told the crowd that he intentionally keeps the Ibaka Deep Seaport project away from the public domain and assured that at the completion of the Seaport project and the International jetty at Ikot Abasi, there would be several more job opportunities for the youths.

On the issue of 2019 gubernatorial election, the Governor noted that Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts had the support of Eket Senatorial District to complete their 8 years  unbroken tenures with each having one Governor and that Eket will not do otherwise.

Speaking in support of the rally, the member representing Onna State Constituency, Otuekong Nse Essen, the Eket PDP Senatorial District Chairman, Mr Mfon Nkanteen, chairman of forum of PDP Chapter Chairmen, Mr Eddy Etangkanga and Mr Frank Archibong for PDP Chairmanship Candidates among others, spoke glowingly in support of Governor's performance.

They highlighted the sterling leadership qualities exhibited by the Governor, prudent management of human and material resources and commitment to the industrialization of the state for wealth and job creation as attributes that endear him to his people.

They endorsed Mr Udom Emmanuel for a second term in office and promised to buy the party nomination form for him to re-contest the 2019 election.

The event which featured the presentation of a symbolic sword to the Governor and performances by music artistes from Eket Senatorial District was witnessed by top government functionaries including State Executive Council Members, Lawmakers, Party Officials and other Senior Citizens.
